SQL Server 2014 is coming...
SQL SERVER – 2014 Announced and SQL Server 2014 Datasheet
Earlier this week Microsoft has announced SQL Server 2014. The release date of Trial of SQL Server to be believed later this year.
Here are few of the improvements which I was looking forward are there in this release. Please note this is not the exhaustive list of the features of SQL Server 2014. This is the a quick note on the features which I was looking forward and now will be available in this release.
- Always On supports now 8 secondaries instead of 4
- Online Indexing at partition level – this is a good thing as now index rebuilding can be done at a partition level
- Statistics at the partition level – this will be a huge improvement in performance
- In-Memory OLTP works by providing in-application memory storage for the most often used tables in SQL Server. (Read More Here)
- Columnstore Index can be updated – I just can’t wait for this feature (Columnstore Index)
- Resource Governor can control IO along with CPU and Memory
- Increase performance by extending SQL Server in-memory buffer pool to SSDs
- Backup to Azure Storage
You can additionally download SQL Server 2014 Datasheet from here. Which is your favorite new feature of SQL Server 2014?

What's Hot Now
| Telecommuting Tools for a More Productive Remote Workforce; 10 Ways Tech Will Improve Business Yahoo's decision to do away with telecommuting has aroused countless debates and opinions. It is well-documented, however, that workers, when given the flexibility to work in the way they're most comfortable, are more productive. Here are some solutions available to companies with flexible remote-working policies. IT teams are constantly coming up with new ways to enhance revenue, increase efficiencies, reduce risk, connect to customers and boost performance. Technology can both improve the customer experience and give your company a digital edge. And implementing telecommuting can increase productivity and save money. Advanced persistent threats pose a growing danger to the enterprise, and many companies are failing to take the necessary steps to protect themselves. Likewise, malware threats against the enterprise have spiked during the last several months, and nearly 75 percent of companies report being vulnerable due to "insecure third parties, including cloud providers." The annual circus of everything mobile, Mobile World Congress, was a hectic week of smartphones, tablets and mobile technologies spread out across eight halls in Barcelona. In addition to the crushing load of hardware on display, the often carnival-like spectacle of vendor booths vying for attendee attention produced some strange and spectacular sights. Here's what this year's show offered visitors. The explosion of mobile devices, apps, the cloud and the Internet has ushered in the era of big data--a collection of data so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using traditional database management or processing tools. Microsoft surveyed IT decision makers on the topic of big data and uncovered several key trends. This slide show looks at those trends. The fiscal cliff isn't the only worry businessmen should have. There's also an "IT skills cliff." The term--which Bob Miano, president and CEO of executive search and recruitment firm Harvey Nash, used at an event his firm held late last month--refers to shortages of skilled technology professionals. The most acute need for IT skills is in the areas of mobile computing, cloud computing, social networking and analytics. Also in demand are security skills. Real men will use Google Glass, as smartphones and their need for finger-swipes over a glass screen will emasculate their users. That's according to Google co-founder Sergey Brin. "You're actually socially isolating yourself with your phone," Brin said at a recent conference. "I feel like it's kind of emasculating. ... You're standing there just rubbing this featureless piece of glass." Do you agree? Check out these Twitter posts about Brin's remarks. If there is one smartphone that can give Apple's iPhone 5 a run for its money, it's Samsung's Galaxy S3. And now Samsung is ready to unveil the next version of the phone--the Galaxy S4.While the company is taking a page out Apple's marketing manual by being tight-lipped on its plans for the Galaxy S4, there have been plenty of rumors, and if true, this will be a product no one will want to miss. Here are 10 features to expect in the Galaxy S4. |

Conquering the Challenges of Data Center Complexity
Today, servers based on industry standard processors, along with Microsoft® or open-source operating systems, are supplanting proprietary, single-vendor solutions. That’s true even for bet-the-business applications like order processing and online commerce, where even a scintilla of downtime might cost millions. As virtualization tools become more robust, they hold the promise of wringing additional capability from those economical hardware solutions, boosting usability rates and lowering the cost of providing each individual virtual server.
